Trouble in Vegas has refined its competition format from previous years. Please read below for more details.
The Tournament format aims to create as many games of parity as possible, while not restricting upward or downward mobility based on initial placement.
The format is broken into three phases:
Initial Placement (5 Tiers)
Invitational, Tiers I-IV
Tier Differentiation (3 Divisions)
Showcase, Elite, & Select
Bracket Play (5 Tiers)
Championship, Tiers I-IV
Initial placement is determined by the previous season's year end RRI (except for Invitational Tier, and Tier IV, which is determined by the participating teams). Teams will then be placed into pools within their Tier. A team's finish in the pools during the Initial Placement phase then dictates distribution into the Tier Differentiation Phase.
During Tier Differentiation, teams will play in new pools to determine their placement in the Tiered Bracket play. The Championship Bracket will be comprised of eight pool play winners from within the Elite Tier Differentiation and the eight teams from Showcase Division.
Every team from the 48 Teams in The Invitational Tier and Tiers I-III has the potential to win the tournament. Teams participating from Tier IV can advance to the Select Tier Differentiation and then as high as the Tier III Bracket Play.
In order to give teams the best access to parity in competition, teams can elect to participate in Tier IV in the Men's Division, and a distinct Grouping in the Women's Division. Please note your interest in Tier IV when registering your team.
The women's format will employ flexible formatting designed to create the most unique matchups on the tournament's first two days.
All teams will be given an initial standing into one of 8 groupings, and then have options within the schedule to play teams from groups above them, equal to them, and below them. Based on the performance across those games, teams will advance to Bracket Play on Sunday.
A committee beyond the Cultimate tournament organizers will be used to determine placement of teams.
