Q: When are bids due?
A: Bids will be filled on a rolling admission basis (i.e. first come, first served). The initial deposit of $300 is due by December 17, 2006. See our registration sectionfor full details.
Q: Why are you charging per-player fees instead of team fees?
A: The tournament site for Trouble in Vegas upped it's field rental cost between 2006-2007. Rather than increasing the bid cost for all teams to shoulder (i.e. a tournament entry fee of $400+), we felt it was more fair to charge teams on a per player basis so that squads with fewer players are not priced out of the event. Essentially, the per-player fee guarantees equal-opportunity Trouble.
Q: Do you have a refund policy?
A: Yes, we definitely have a refund policy in place. Sometimes plans change and players bail, and we want to make sure organizers don't get caught in the lurch. You can check out the full policy here.
Q: Will there be food at the site?
A: We will, of course, have the standard fare of bagels, fruit and, water. However, we're attempting to go beyond the usual this year with amenities - though we've yet to work our details, there will definitely be some top notch fare.
We are also working with local food vendors to provide other amenities (such as on-site pizza, and we'll know more about this as the tournament approaches.
Q: Will there be concessions?
A: There will definitely be a pizza stand hosted by a local eatery. We'll update this site as we broker more amenities.
Q: Will there be tournament merchandise for sale?
A: Yes, there will be discs and apparel for sale.
Q: Will there be a party?
A: There will be 2 parties this year - both will be held at the Top of the World lounge at the 110th floor of the Stratosphere (which is also the tournament hotel, check here to learn how to book a room). The "Welcome" Party will run a on Friday night between 7 PM-10 PM. It'll be a good rallying spot to meet up with teammates and old friends before hitting the town.
There is also a pre-party between 7 PM and 10 PM on Saturday, January 27th. Again, the purpose of this event is to serve as a mixer / staging ground for people to launch the rest of their evening plans. There will be alcohol served, and we will have suggestions as to what Clubs, Bars, or Casinos to flow to next. However, both parties will be a finite events, as we believe no social function we could ever throw could compete with the entertainment offered by the rest of Las Vegas.
Q: I heard the fields are hard. Are they?
A: It's true, the fields are hard. The fields were particularly bad in 2006 due to the drought out West. We've been assured by Clark County that they're doing what they can to have the fields in better shape by January.
Q: Seriously, did anyone die last year?
Not to our knowledge.
Q: Is camping allowed at the fields?
A: Clark County Parks and Rec (the Vegas field host) does not allow camping at the field site. We are currently working with local hotels to provide great deals for both weekends.
Q: Will there be a tournament hotel?
Actually, there will be 2 tournament hotels this year. The first and primary tournament hotel will be the Stratosphere, located on the north end of the Strip. Please click here to learn how to reserve rooms under the Trouble in Vegas special block rate. In addition, we have secured a budget-friendly option a the Plaza Hotel in Old Downtown (at the very north end of the Strip). Q: Are dogs allowed?
A: Dogs are also not permitted, please leave Rover at home. Is that joke old?
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: According to the site managers, they have never had rain-related shutdowns. One might also take comfort in that the average rainfall in Las Vegas for the entire month of February is .45 inches. To give this some perspective, it would have to rain 4 times that amount in a single day to shut down most field sites.
Q: What gender ratio are you looking at for co-ed?
A: The gender format will be 4-3 (men/women) or 5-2, offense dictates. The decision to not go 3-4/4-3 was based on last year's team gender ratios. If there is a significant backlash to this this year, we're definitely amenable to change.
